0.0: Start at the gate at the end of Sneath Lane, on a wide paved trail.
1.7: Crest and junction. Turn left onto Sweeney Ridge Trail. After a few feet, bear left onto an unsigned but well-worn path to the Discovery Site. Then retrace your steps back to Sweeney Ridge Trail, and continue south.
1.8: Junction with Baquiano Trail. Continue straight.
2.2: Unmarked path veers right. Continue straight.
2.8: The path rejoins the fire road. Continue straight.
2.9: Portola Gate, and the turnaround point. Retrace your steps back to the trailhead.
5.8: Back at the trailhead.

Getting there:
From Interstate 280 in San Mateo County, exit Sneath Lane (exit 43b). Drive west about 2 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road.
