0.0: Start at the Tanoak Picnic Area and walk back about .10 mile, past the entry kiosk, to Pescadero Road.
0.1: Pescadero Road. Cross and begin hiking on Mount Ellen Loop Trails.
0.2: Junction. Bear left, toward Pomponio Trail.
0.3: Junction. Bear left, toward Pomponio Trail.
0.4: Junction. Turn right onto Pomponio Trail, here a fire road.
4.0: Junction. Turn left onto Mount Ellen Summit Trail.
4.7: Junction. Turn left.
4.8: Junction, again. Turn left and retrace your steps back to the trailhead.
5.0: Back at the picnic area parking.

Getting there:
• From Highway 1 in San Mateo County, turn east on Pescadero Road. Drive about 8 miles to the park entrance on the right side of the road.
• From Highway 280 in San Mateo County, exit Highway 84. Drive west about 6.5 miles to the junction with Highway 35, then continue west on 84 about 6.5 miles to the junction with Pescadero Road. Turn left and drive about 1 mile, then bear right to stay on Pescadero Road at the junction with Alpine Road. Drive about 4.3 more miles on Pescadero Road to the park entrance on the left side of the road.
