0.0: Walk through the gate at the edge of the parking lot, onto paved Old Briones Road.
0.1: Junction with Homestead Valley Trail. Continue straight on Old Briones Road.
0.6: Junction with Black Oak Trail. Continue straight on Old Briones Road.
1.0: Junction. Bear left to remain on Old Briones Road.
1.6: Just before the crest and junction, bear left onto an unsigned but obvious path.
1.6: Bench and viewpoint. Turn around and walk back to the fire road, then turn left and reach a junction at the crest. Turn left.
1.8: Trail splits at a junction. Bear left onto Briones Crest Trail.
2.0: Junction with Lagoon Trail. Continue straight on Briones Crest Trail.
2.3: Junction. Turn left onto Mott Peak Trail.
2.7: Junction. Bear left onto Black Oak Trail.
3.6: Junction with Old Briones Road. Turn right and retrace your steps back to the trailhead.

Getting there:
From CA 24 in Contra Costa County, exit Moraga/Orinda (exit 9). Drive north on Camino Pablo Road for about 2 miles, then turn right onto Bear Creek Road. Drive on Bear Creek about 4.4 miles, to the park entrance on the right side of the road. After passing the entrance kiosk, continue straight to the parking lot.
