Bay Area Hiker: Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline

Choose from two hikes at Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline

View from West Ridge PointHike One: A loop to the ridgeline and back
Beginning at the park's large parking area, this 1.3 mile hike climbs through grassland to False Gun Vista Point, where you'll have unobstructed views of Angel Island, San Francisco, Mount Tamalpais, the East Bay hills, Point Richmond, and Richmond. Then descend back to the trailhead on tiny path with wildflowers growing throughout the grassland in spring.

High points:
Great if you live nearby and want to bring a dog.

Low points:
Some steep sections of trail make this hike more difficult than its length would suggest. At the ridge, there's a lot of noise from industrial Richmond, and throughout this section of the park you'll probably encounter garbage and ugly shortcut paths.

A paved path skirts the lagoonHike Two: An easy loop around the lagoon
Just a few steps from the parking lot, a paved trail makes a mile-long circuit around a lagoon. The manicured park is teaming with squirrels, as well as ducks, seagulls, and geese. This flat trail makes a nice lunch time stroll, or a good choice for parents with kids in strollers. If you're planning an outing with a disabled person, Miller/Knox is a great choice. Wheelchairs can be pushed right into the picnic areas, and some restrooms accommodate a wheelchair.

High points:
This section of the park is well-cared for, and has lots of amenities: a small playground, picnic areas, and restrooms (albeit somewhat primitive).

Low points:
Keep your kids away from park wildlife (especially the geese). This section of the park, particularly the area near the fence to the west, is well, there's no other way to put it, infested with squirrels.
