Trail is fine at this recently improved and fairly new nature preserve in the Coast Range outside of Vacaville and Davis, CA.

Fine conditions yesterday, back for my 9X on the CC Loop. A little mud in the trail rut on the way to the Homestead, but otherwise fine. Ceanothus, shootingstars, paintbrush, and others are out. Rain today, though, but it dries out in 2 days, or less, apparently.

Clear views, to the Sierra, and north to the higher Coastal Range (snow). Creek crossing is easy, a 3 foot hop. Beautiful waters flowing down the creek, great for movies. A bit far for the average Bay Area hiker, but a 50 minute drive for me. About 3 hours for the loop, taking it easy, with photos.

My 10X for the entire loop, again, today. Trail was damp and more muddy than last time (a week ago). We got some rain in the last two days. About as many flowers, or more.

I had come from the Cache Creek access for the Blue Ridge Trail. The low water bridge was inundated. I wanted Fiske, but that was not to be. Perhaps a few more weeks to wait, if at all this spring.

The trail is mostly dry or damp for my 11X, today. Not too many flowers, though, but the views are good. A few turkey vultures, and lizards are out. No ticks, or many other bugs. One hiker had her feet wet, maybe from trying the creek crossing (3 foot jump). It's no real problem for a good hiker.

This coming weekend might be pretty good for doing this scenic loop trail in the  Cold Canyon UCD Stebbins Preserve. Some days are forecast to be in the 70's. I did my 12X today, and the cooler temperatures were nice enough. Lots of wildflowers, but not as good as last year. There's a good variety of chaparral species, and a great vista of Lake Berryessa. The creek is finally low, and a rock hop to cross. No ticks or mosquitoes.

My 21X doing the Cold Canyon Loop (now 4.75 miles) and Pleasants Ridge to the third hill/bump are seen at my new website, http://www.petesthousandpeaks.com

There's some mud but easily avoided, and most of the dirt trail is damp but fine for hiking. I did bring and use my ancient worn-out boots in case it was muddy, but as most all of the time, the trail is passable without getting much dirt or mud caked onto your boots. My long pants stayed pretty clean, and the stream rock hop was it's usual 3 feet (this time of year).

I also hiked most of Pleasants Ridge for more great views and geology to be noted. A good 6 miles, with 2,800' gain, total round trip.
