I hiked to Rose Peak again today from Del Valle.  It took around 7 hours round trip.  It rained/sprinkled for about 5 hours.  At least I got to test my rain gear.

The rain pants and top were made by Marmot.  They worked great.  Without the pants I'm sure I would have gotten hypothermia.  I really could have used some gloves though.  It was cold on top of the second ridge.  It was so cold, wet, windy, and foggy at the top of Rose I climbed to the top, turned around, and started hiking back down without waiting.  I stopped a little ways down the road when I found a place out of the wind.  I stopped for 10 minutes to eat but had to start hiking again when I started shivering.  I could have put on my fleece vest but then I would have burned up when I started hiking again.

It was a little hard to maintain a comfortable temperature.  If I zipped everything up and put on the hood I'd eventually be too hot.  If I started to unzip things I'd eventually get too cold.

After it started raining I changed into a long sleeved Capilene shirt by Patagonia.  This was all I really needed under the Marmot top, at least while I was hiking.
